The Ottawa Redblacks and defensive lineman Kene Onyeka agreed to a two-year contract extension on Tuesday through the 2024 season. The 26-year-old from Lagos, Nigeria, had 26 tackles, five sacks, and one forced fumble in 17 games in the 2022 season.

This will be Onyeka’s fourth season in Ottawa after the Redblacks drafted him in the fourth round (29th pick) in the 2018 CFL Draft. In three seasons, Onyeka has 51 tackles, seven sacks, and two forced fumbles in 36 games.

“I’m very happy to sign on for another two years with the Redblacks,” said Onyeka. “I’m just happy to get to do what I love in a place that I love.”

Collegiately, Onyeka played five seasons at Carleton University (2014-18) with 143.5 tackles, 21.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and four pass breakups in 31 games for the Ravens.

In 2017, he was named First Team All-Canadian and the OUA top lineman after making 39 tackles, 10.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and two pass breakups in eight games. The following year, Onyeka had 24 tackles, seven sacks, and one pass breakup in seven games in his senior season.
