After the Philadelphia Eagles could not clinch the number one seed and the NFC East title on Saturday in a 40-34 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts is going to make a push to play next Sunday against the New Orleans Saints according to NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport.
Jalen Hurts suffered a sternoclavicular (SC) joint sprain on his throwing shoulder in last week’s win over the Chicago Bears. An SC joint sprain is where the collarbone meets the breastbone. Hurts was selected to his first Pro Bowl and is in the running for the NFL league MVP this year.
Philadelphia committed four turnovers in their loss at Dallas with three of them by backup quarterback Gardner Minshew. Minshew completed 24 of 40 passes for 355 yards, two touchdowns, two interceptions, and four carries for 17 yards. However, it was Minshew’s first start since January 8th, 2022 against the Dallas Cowboys.
“If Jalen’s ready to go, Jalen will play,” Sirianni said after the Eagles’ 40-34 loss. “He’s our starting quarterback. If he’s ready to go, then he’ll go. Again, like I said, that’s nothing against Gardner, because I thought he played a really good game, but if Jalen’s ready, he’ll go.”
This season, Hurts has completed 286 of 425 passes (67.3%) for 3,472 yards, 22 touchdowns, five interceptions, 156 carries for 747 yards (4.8 AVG), and 13 touchdowns in 14 games. His 35 combined touchdowns are tied with Randall Cunningham’s franchise record which was set in 1990.
The Eagles can clinch the number one seed and the NFC East title on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints at 1 pm on FOX.
