LSU running back Noah Cain scores a touchdown in the Citrus Bowl

On Monday afternoon at Camping World Stadium. The LSU Tigers (SEC) defeated the Purdue Boilermakers (Big Ten) by the final score of 56-7 in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl.

LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier completed 11 of 15 passes for 173 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Backup quarterback Jayden Daniels completed 12 of 17 passes for 139 yards, one touchdown, six carries for 67 yards, one catch for five yards, and one touchdown.

Running backs Noah Cain (8 carries for 58 yards, 2 touchdowns), John Emery Jr. (7 catches for 52 yards, 1 touchdown), and Derrick Davis Jr. (6 carries for 29 yards, 1 touchdown) combined with 21 carries for 139 yards, and four touchdowns.

Wide receiver Malik Nabers completed two of two passes for 50 yards, one touchdown, nine catches for 163 yards, and one touchdown. Wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. (4 catches for 31 yards, 1 touchdown) and tight end Mason Taylor (5 catches for 88 yards, 1 touchdown) combined with nine catches for 119 yards, and two touchdowns.

LSU’s defense allowed 263 yards, with 61 tackles, four sacks, seven pass breakups, two interceptions, and one touchdown. The Tigers finish the season at 10-4.

Purdue quarterback Austin Burton completed 12 of 24 passes for 74 yards and one interception. Backup quarterback Michael Alaimo completed four of eleven passes for 38 yards, one touchdown, one interception, and five carries for 15 yards.

Running back Devin Mockobee had 13 carries for 48 yards, and wide receiver TJ Sheffield had seven catches for 56 yards and one touchdown. Purdue’s defense allowed 594 yards, with 50 tackles, one pass breakup, and one interception. The Boilermakers finish the season at 8-6.
