On Wednesday night from the Norfolk Scope. The Reading Royals (18-9-1) took on the Norfolk Admirals (5-24-2) in a North Divisional showdown. This was the fourth meeting between these two teams.
Seven minutes and sixteen seconds into the first period. The Royals took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Charlie Gerard (9). Max Newton assisted his goal. Two minutes and twenty-four seconds later. Charlie Gerard (19) extended the Royals’ lead to 2-0. Max Newton and Will MacKinnon assisted his goal. The Royals led 2-0 after one period.
Four minutes and forty-seven seconds into the second period. Norfolk cut the Royals’ lead to 2-1 on a goal by Ryan Foss (5) with an assist from Danny Katic. Twelve minutes and twenty seconds later. The Admirals tied it up 2-2 on a goal by Denis Smirnov (2). Mathieu Roy and Eric Cooley assisted his goal. The game remained tied 2-2 after two periods.
Five minutes and fifty-eight seconds into the third period. Trey Bradley (10) put the Royals back on top 3-2 with an assist from Charlie Gerard. A minute and eight seconds later. Alec Butcher (4) extended the Royals’ lead to 4-2.
Finally, late in the third period. Max Newton (15) put the game away scoring a power play goal for a 5-2 lead. Trey Bradley and Charlie Gerard assisted his goal. The Royals went on to defeat the Admirals by the final score of 5-2.
The Royals finished the night with 32 shots, 1/4 on the power play, and Josh Boyko made 19 saves. On the other side, the Admirals had 21 shots, 0/2 on the power play, and Tomas Vomacka made 27 saves.
