Toronto Argonauts sign three defensive back players including J.T. Hassell

The Toronto Argonauts announced on Wednesday they have signed defensive backs J.T. Hassell, Qwan’Tez Stiggers, and Chris Moore.

J.T. Hassell, a 27-year-old from Titusville, Florida, played four games for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers making two tackles on special teams. Before joining Winnipeg, Hassell played seven games for the Cleveland Browns and New York Jets with eight tackles. He signed with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2019 and became the first player from Florida Tech to appear in an NFL regular season game.

Hassell played his first two seasons at South Dakota State (2014-15) with 62 tackles, one sack, two pass breakups, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and one block on special teams in 26 games.

Then, Hassell transferred to Florida Tech (2017-18) with 203 tackles, 6.5 sacks, one interception, 12 pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 23 games. In 2018, he was named Division II All-American, First-team All-GSC, and GSC Defensive Player of the Year.

Qwan’Tez Stiggers, a 23-year-old from Atlanta, Georgia, played for the Heavy Hitters of the Fan Controlled Football League with 30 tackles, five interceptions, and one touchdown. He was a finalist for the league’s defensive player of the league award.  Collegiately, Stiggers played at Lane College.

Chris Moore, a 24-year-old from Ashburn, Virginia, had a short stint with the Baltimore Ravens. He signed with the Ravens as an undrafted free agent. Collegiately, Moore played three seasons at the University of Virginia (2016-17, 2019) with 97 tackles and one interception in 32 games. He missed the 2018 season due to an injury. Then, Moore transferred to Georgia State (2020-21) with 104 tackles, one interception, six pass breakups, and two forced fumbles in 22 games.
