Georgia routes TCU to win their second straight National Championship

On Monday night at SoFi Stadium. The Georgia Bulldogs (SEC) routed the TCU Horned Frogs (Big XII) by the final score of 65-7 to win their second straight CFP National Championship. The 58 points are the largest margin of victory ever in a bowl game. The previous record was held by USC (36 points) in 2004 over Oklahoma 55-19 in the Orange Bowl.

For TCU, their championship drought continues. The last time TCU won a National Championship was in the 1938 Sugar Bowl over Carnegie Tech at Tulane Stadium. Texas remains the only Big XII team to win a National Championship back in the 2006 Rose Bowl game over USC 41-38.

Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett completed 18 of 25 passes for 304 yards, four touchdowns, three carries for 39 yards, and two touchdowns. Running backs Branson Robinson (7 carries for 42 yards, 2 touchdowns) and Kendall Milton (10 carries for 33 yards, 1 touchdown) combined with 17 carries for 75 yards, and three touchdowns.

Wide receivers Ladd McConkey (5 catches for 88 yards, 2 touchdowns), Adonai Mitchell (1 catch for 22 yards, 1 touchdown), and tight end Brock Bowers (7 catches for 152 yards, 1 touchdown) combined with 13 catches for 262 yards, and four touchdowns.

Georgia’s defense allowed 188 yards, with 45 tackles, five sacks, one pass breakup, and two interceptions. The Bulldogs finish the season a perfect 15-0.

TCU quarterback Max Duggan completed 14 of 22 passes for 152 yards, two interceptions, ten carries for -38 yards, and one touchdown. Running back Emari Demercado had 14 carries for 59 yards, and wide receiver Derius Davis had five catches for 101 yards.

TCU’s defense allowed 589 yards, with 66 tackles and four pass breakups. The Horned Frogs finish the season at 13-2.
