South Dakota State beats North Dakota State to win their first FCS Championship

On Sunday afternoon at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas. The South Dakota Jackrabbits won their first FCS Championship with a 45-21 win over the North Dakota State Bisons. The Bison were looking for their tenth championship in twelve years.

South Dakota State quarterback Mark Gronowski completed 14 of 21 passes for 223 yards, three touchdowns, five carries for 57 yards, and one touchdown. Running backs Amar Johnson (9 carries for 126 yards, 1 touchdown) and Isaiah Davis (22 carries for 103 yards, 1 touchdown) combined with 31 carries for 129 yards, and two touchdowns.

Wide receivers Jadon Janke (5 catches for 61 yards), Jaxon Janke (3 catches for 60 yards, 2 touchdowns), and fullback Michael Morgan (1 catch for 44 yards, 1 touchdown) combined with nine catches for 165 yards, and three touchdowns.

South Dakota’s defense allowed 420 yards, with 68 tackles, one sack, two interceptions, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. The Jackrabbits finish the season at 14-1.

North Dakota State quarterback Cam Miller completed 18 of 29 passes for 260 yards, two touchdowns, two interceptions, and 13 carries for 64 yards. Running back Kobe Johnson had 11 carries for 63 yards and one touchdown. Wide receiver Eli Green (1 catch for 44 yards, 1 touchdown) and tight end Joe Stoffel (3 catches for 41 yards, 1 touchdown) combined with four catches for 85 yards, and two touchdowns.

North Dakota State’s defense allowed 506 yards, with 67 tackles and one sack. The Bisons finish the season at 12-3.
