Edmonton Elks signs Offensive linemen Toryque Bateman and Martez Ivey

The Edmonton Elks signed offensive linemen Toryque Bateman and Martez Ivey on Tuesday.

Toryque Bateman, a 24-year-old from Gadsden, Alabama, redshirted with the Florida A&M Rattlers in 2022. In addition, he redshirted at Louisville in 2017 before transferring to Fort Scott Community College in 2019.

He played six games for the Greyhounds helping the offense finish with the second-best passing attack in the KJCCC (221.8 yards/game). After Fort Scott, Bateman transferred to Troy in 2020 but did not play the season.

Martez Ivey, a 27-year-old from Apopka, Florida, played 15 games for the Elks in 2022. This will be his second season in Edmonton. Collegiately, Ivey played four seasons at the University of Florida (2015-18). He played in 49 games at left guard. In 2015, he was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team by the conference’s coaches.

In 2018, the Gators’ offense allowed 18 sacks for the season, ranking 20th in the country. Ivey was named Third Team All-SEC accolades from Athlon Sports.

After college, he went undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft and signed with the New England Patriots but was cut during training camp.

In 2020, he played eight games for the Tampa Bay Vipers of the XFL before the season was suspended. In 2021, he signed with the Carolina Panthers but was waived during training camp and later signed with the Toronto Argonauts playing two games.
