Defending IndyCar champion Will Power to compete in the 2023 Rolex 24 at Daytona

Will Power getting set to race at Laguna Seca

This past Tuesday, defending NTT IndyCar Series champion Will Power will make his sports car racing debut at the 2023 Rolex 24 at Daytona driving the No. 75 Sun Energy 1 Mercedes-AMG GT3. He will partner with Kenny Habul, Fabian Schiller, and Axcil Jeffries in the GT Daytona (GTD) class.

Will Power, a 41-year-old from Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia, won five poles, one win, 12 top-five, and 13 top-ten finishes in the 2022 IndyCar season on his way to winning his second NTT IndyCar Series championship. In 2022, he surpassed the great Mario Andretti with 68 poles becoming IndyCar’s all-time leader.

“The Daytona 24 is an iconic event on the bucket list of most drivers, and I have to thank Kenny for the opportunity,” Power said. “It is funny when you look back at how Kenny and I raced Formula Ford against each other all those years ago, and now we are going to be teammates.”

Will Power will enter his sixteenth season in IndyCar. He has 68 poles, 41 wins including the 2018 Indianapolis 500, 91 top-five, and 123 top-ten finishes in 238 races.

“Will is a monster talent and genuine person, and we look forward to him being a valuable contributor to our 24-hour campaign at Daytona,” Habul said. “He has a reputation of being fast in anything he drives and I am sure he will be up to speed in our gear in no time.”

In addition to Power, his teammates Josef Newgarden and Scott McLaughlin, along with Helio Castroneves, Scott Dixon, Simon Pagenaud, Colton Herta, Romain Grosjean, Rinus VeeKay, Kyle Kirkwood and Devlin DeFrancesco will all compete in the Rolex 24 at Daytona.

The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Series kicks off the 2023 season with three days of testing at the Roar Before the Rolex 24 before qualifying takes place on Sunday, January 22nd, at 1:20 pm on IMSA.TV.
