The Reading Royals (21-10-1) returned to the Santander Arena on Friday night. They took on the Adirondack Thunder (10-16-6) in a North Division battle. This was the fourth meeting between these teams and Reading had won three of them. The streak would continue on Friday.
Three minutes and fifty-two seconds into the first period. Ryan Da Silva (3) put the Thunder up 1-0. Garrett Van Wyhe and Jeff Taylor assisted with his goal. Eleven minutes and fifty seconds later. Charlie Gerard (13) scored a power-play goal to tie the game at 1-1. Garrett McFadden and Shane Sellar assisted with his goal.
Three minutes and twelve seconds later. Tyler Kirkup (5) put the Royals up 2-1. Yvan Mongo and Colin Felix assisted with his goal. The Royals led 2-1 after one period.
Fourteen minutes and thirty-one seconds into the second period. Alec Butcher (5) extended the Royals’ lead to 3-1. Will MacKinnon and Jacob Gaucher assisted with his goal. The Royals led 3-1 after two periods.
Eleven minutes and fifty-two seconds into the third period. Garrett McFadden (2) made it 4-1 with assists from Shane Sellar and Adam Karashik. Four minutes and forty-nine seconds later. Alec Butcher (6) scored his second goal of the game to make it 5-1. Jacob Gaucher assisted with his goal. The Royals defeated the Thunder by the final score of 5-1.
The Royals finished the night with 22 shots, 1/2 on the power play, and Pat Nagle made 24 saves. On the other side. The Thunder had 25 shots, 0/4 on the power play, and Jake Theut made 17 saves.
