The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed former Hillsdale College defensive back Zach Herzog on Tuesday. The 25-year-old from Winsor, Ontario, spent time in training camp with the Saskatchewan Roughriders before going to UBC to finish his collegiate career. The Roughriders drafted Herzog in the seventh round (63rd pick) in the 2022 CFL Draft.
Collegiately, Herzog played five seasons at Hillsdale College (2017-21) with 244 tackles, one sack, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, one interception, and eight pass breakups in 30 games for the Chargers. In his final year, Herzog had 105 tackles, one sack, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, one interception, and six pass breakups in 12 games.
Then, Herzog transferred to the University of British Columbia in 2022. He made 49 tackles, one interception, and five pass breakups in eleven games for the Thunderbirds.
In high school, Herzog is a Three-time Windsor City MVP at Holy Names. In addition, Herzog was named First-Team All-Canadian in track and field, a Silver medalist in the 100-meter dash at the Windsor City meet and helped the 4×100 relay team to a city championship.
