The BC Lions and fullback David Mackie agreed to a two-year contract extension through the 2024 season on Wednesday. The 28-year-old from Jackson’s Point, Ontario, had 19 carries for 94 yards, one touchdown, six catches for 41 yards, and four tackles in 14 games for the Lions in 2022. This will be Mackie’s fifth season with the Lions.

“It’s an honor to be staying, this organization has made me feel at home for my entire career,” said Mackie to BC Lions’ reporter Matt Baker. “Last season was a big indicator of just how far we’ve come as a team and we all look forward to beginning the next big step toward a championship.”

In four seasons with the Lions. Mackie has 19 carries for 94 yards, one touchdown, 16 catches for 120 yards, and 22 tackles in 56 games. The Lions drafted Mackie in the second round (16th pick) in the 2018 CFL Draft.

Collegiately, Mackie played five seasons at the University of Western Ontario (2013-17) with three carries for 13 yards, 24 catches for 310 yards, one touchdown, four kick returns for 56 yards, 38 tackles, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 36 games for the Mustangs. In 2017, Mackie helped the Mustangs win the Vanier Cup.
