The Winnipeg Blue Bombers and offensive lineman Asotui Eli agreed to a three-year contract extension on Wednesday. The 26-year-old from Richmond, British Columbia, did not play in the 2022 season. In 2021, he played 14 games, including the Western Final against Saskatchewan.
The Blue Bombers drafted Eli in the fourth round (34th pick) in the 2019 CFL Draft. This will be his third season in Winnipeg. Eli has played 19 games at right guard. In 2019, Eli was part of an offensive line that helped running back Andrew Harris win the rushing title and their first Grey Cup championship in 29 years. He is a two-time Grey Cup champion.
Collegiately, Eli played three seasons at the University of Hawaii (2015-17) playing 37 games at center and right guard with one tackle. In 2018, he missed the season due to a knee injury. In 2017, the Warriors’ offensive line helped Hawaii to its best-rushing average (168.2) in 22 years.
