Redblacks and defensive lineman Lorenzo Mauldin IV agree to a contract extension

The Ottawa Redblacks and CFL’s reigning Most Outstanding Defensive Player Lorenzo Mauldin IV agreed to a one-year contract extension through the 2023 season on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old from Sacramento, California, had 43 tackles, 17 sacks, and forced fumbles in 18 games for the Redblacks in 2022. This will be Mauldin’s second year in Ottawa. In addition, Mauldin was named a CFL All-Star in 2022.

The New York Jets drafted Mauldin in the third round (82nd pick) in the 2015 NFL Draft. Mauldin played two seasons with 33 tackles, 6.5 sacks, one interception, two pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 26 games.

After the Jets released him. Mauldin signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2019. Mauldin played two seasons in Hamilton with 25 tackles, four sacks, and one forced fumble in 17 games.

Collegiately, Mauldin played four seasons at Louisville (2011-14) with 120 tackles, 20.5 sacks, and five forced fumbles in 47 games, of which 24 were starts. In 2013, he was named Second-Team All-American Athletic Conference.
