The Winnipeg Blue Bombers and linebacker Shayne Gauthier agreed to a one-year contract extension on Tuesday. The 30-year-old from Dolbeau-Mistassini, Quebec City, made 33 tackles and two sacks in 18 games for the Blue Bombers in 2022.
The Blue Bombers drafted Gauthier in the fourth round (28th pick) in the 2016 CFL Draft. In his rookie season, Gauthier made seven tackles and one forced fumble in nine games.
This will be his seventh season in Winnipeg. In six seasons with Winnipeg, Gauthier has 97 tackles, two sacks, and one forced fumble in 81 games. He is part of the 2019 and 2021 Grey Cup championship teams.
Collegiately, Gauthier played four seasons at Laval (2012-15) with 130 tackles, three forced fumbles, one interception, and five pass breakups in 33 games for the Rouge et Or. He is a two-time RSEQ all-star, and earned U Sports second-team All-Canadian honors as a senior.
