The BC Lions and linebacker Boseko Lokombo agreed to a one-year contract extension through the 2023 season on Thursday. The 32-year-old from Kinshasa, Zaire, had 52 tackles, two sacks, and two sacks in 13 games for the Lions in 2022. This will his seventh season in British Columbia and eighth in the CFL.
“This franchise means so much to me and it’s exciting for me and my family to stay in orange and black,” said Lokombo. “Our linebacker room and entire defense have raised their game to a higher level and we all look forward to making even more plays in 2023.”
The Lions drafted Lokombo in the third round (21st pick) in the 2013 CFL Draft but he returned to Oregon for his final season. After going undrafted in the NFL in 2014, Lokombo signed with the Lions. In his rookie season, he made nine tackles in seven games.
Lokombo spent three seasons in his first stint in British Columbia with 77 tackles and one sack in 43 games. He was named a CFL West All-Star in 2015 after making 48 tackles and one sack in 18 games. He was released to pursue an opportunity in the NFL.
Lokombo spent time on the Baltimore Ravens, Oakland Raiders, and San Francisco 49ers practice squads. In 2018, he returned to the Lions for his second stint. He made 87 tackles, four sacks, two interceptions, and one forced fumble in 18 games.
A year later, he left the Lions for the Montreal Alouettes in 2019. He played one season in Montreal with 59 tackles, two interceptions, and one forced fumble in 15 games.
In 2021, he returned to the Lions for his third stint. He made 77 tackles, four sacks, three interceptions, one touchdown, and one forced fumble in 14 games.
Collegiately, Lokombo played four seasons at Oregon (2010-13) with 171 tackles, seven sacks, five interceptions, two touchdowns, 16 pass breakups, three forced fumbles, and five fumble recoveries in 53 games for the Ducks. In his final season, he made 63 tackles, three sacks, one interception, two pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 13 games.
