The BC Lions and linebacker Isaiah Guzylak-Messam agreed to a two-year contract extension through the 2024 season on Friday. The 27-year-old from Hamilton, Ontario, had 16 tackles in 17 games last season. Guzylak-Messam was scheduled to be a free agent next month.
This will be Guzylak-Messam’s fifth season in British Columbia. The Lions drafted Guzylak-Messam in the fourth round (34th pick) in the 2018 CFL Draft. In his rookie season, he made eight tackles in ten games. Overall, Guzylak-Messam has 77 tackles and one sack in 57 games.
Collegiately, Guzylak-Messam played four seasons at Wilfrid Laurier University (2014-17) with 82 tackles and two interceptions in 24 games. He was named OUA Men’s Football Second Team All-Star in 2017 and helped the Golden Hawks win the 2016 Men’s Football OUA Championship.
