Toronto Argonauts and defensive lineman Robbie Smith agree to a two-year extension

The Toronto Argonauts and defensive lineman Robbie Smith agreed to a two-year contract extension through the 2024 season on Friday. The 25-year-old from Brampton, Ontario, had 29 tackles, three sacks, one interception, one forced fumble, and a memorable blocked kick in the 109th Grey Cup that gave the Argo’s their 18th Grey Cup championship.

This will be Smith’s fourth season in Toronto. The Argonauts drafted Smith in the second round (9th pick) in the 2019 CFL Draft. In his rookie season, Smith had 16 tackles, four sacks, and one forced fumble. Overall, Smith has 75 tackles, eight sacks, one interception, and three forced fumbles in 45 games.

Collegiately, Smith played four seasons at Wilfrid Laurier University (2015-18) with 78 tackles, 19.5 sacks, six pass breakups, four forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 37 games for the Golden Hawks.

In his final season, Smith had 23 tackles, four sacks, two pass breakups, and one forced fumble in eight games. He is a two-time OUA Men’s Football Second Team All-Star, and helped the Golden Hawks win the 2016 Men’s Football OUA Championship.
