The Toronto Argonauts signed former Tarleton State defensive back Devin Hafford on Tuesday. The 24-year-old from Atascocita, Texas, had two stints with the New England Patriots in 2022.
He signed with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent. In addition, he spent time with the Pittsburgh Maulers (USFL) and was drafted by the Houston Roughnecks (XFL) before being released during training camp.
Collegiately, Hafford played six seasons at Tarleton State (2016-21) with 243 tackles, 12 interceptions, two touchdowns, 57 pass breakups, one forced fumble, four fumble recoveries, and one blocked kick in 56 games for the Texans.
In his final season, Hafford made 50 tackles, six interceptions, one touchdown, 13 pass breakups, and two fumble recoveries in 11 games. He was named WAC Defensive Player of the Year, AP FCS All-America Second Team, 2021 Stats Perform FCS All-America Second Team, First Team All-WAC, and Phil Steele FCS All-WAC First Team.
In addition, he was named D2CCA second-team All-American, Associated Press second-team All-American, D2CCA first-team All-Region, LSC Defensive Back of the Year, and First team All-LSC in 2018 after making 34 tackles, four interceptions, one touchdown, 18 pass breakups, and one blocked kick in 13 games.
