Toronto Argonauts and linebacker Wynton McManis agree to a one-year extension

The Toronto Argonauts and linebacker Wynton McManis agreed to a contract extension through the 2023 season on Saturday.

The 28-year-old from Memphis, Tennessee, helped the Argo’s win the Grey Cup with 95 tackles, three sacks, two interceptions, one touchdown, and one forced fumble in 14 games in 2022. He was named a CFL All-Star in 2022. This will be McManis’s second season in Toronto.

The Argonauts signed McManis as a free agent on February 8th, 2022. Before joining Toronto, McManis spent three seasons with the Calgary Stampeders (2017-19) with 145 tackles, four sacks, and two forced fumbles in 43 games.

In addition, McManis played two games for the San Francisco 49ers in 2016 and one game for the New Orleans Saints in 2021. McManis spent the majority of his NFL career on the practice squad.

Collegiately, McManis played four seasons at the University of Memphis (2012-15) with 110 tackles, three sacks, one interception, one touchdown, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, one punt return for 16 yards, and one blocked kick in 47 games for the Tigers.

In 2015, he was named to the Preseason American Athletic Conference fourth team by Phil Steele. He made 62 tackles, three sacks, one fumble recovery, one punt return for 16 yards, and one blocked kick in 13 games in his final season with Memphis.
