The Hamilton Tiger-Cats and defensive end Malik Carney agreed to a one-year contract extension through the 2023 season on Sunday. The 27-year-old from Alexandria, Virginia, had 30 tackles, seven sacks, one touchdown, and one forced fumble in 17 games for the Ticats in 2022. This will be Carney’s third season in Hamilton.

The Ticats signed Carney as a free agent on January 18th, 2021. In his rookie season, Carney had four tackles and one sack in four games in 2021. Before signing in Hamilton, Carney spent time with the Detroit Lions, Seattle Seahawks, and the Denver Broncos.

Collegiately, Carney played four seasons at North Carolina (2015-18) with 176 tackles, 17.5 sacks, four pass breakups, nine forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries in 36 games for the Tar Heels.
