The Toronto Argonauts re-signed wide receiver DaVaris Daniels and defensive back Dashaun Amos to one-year contract extensions through the 2023 season on Sunday.
DaVaris Daniels, a 30-year-old from Vernon Hills, Illinois, made 61 catches for 860 yards, and four touchdowns in 16 games for Toronto in 2022. This will be his third season in Toronto. In two seasons, Daniels has 112 catches for 1,457 yards, eight touchdowns, and one carry for 18 yards in 29 games for the Argonauts.
Toronto signed Daniels as a free agent on February 11th, 2020, after spending the 2019 season in Edmonton. Daniels had 54 catches for 738 yards, and two touchdowns in 13 games for the Eskimos (now Elks).
Daniels went undrafted out of Notre Dame and had a brief stint in the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings and New England Patriots before signing with the Calgary Stampeders in 2016.
In 2018, he played 12 games with 50 catches for 747 yards, and seven touchdowns, helping the Stampeders win the Grey Cup over the Ottawa Redblacks. He spent three seasons in Calgary with 148 catches for 2,375 yards, 20 touchdowns, and six carries for 26 yards in 36 games.
Daniels was named CFL’s Most Outstanding Rookie Award in 2016 and is a two-time Grey Cup champion. Collegiately, Daniels played two seasons at Notre Dame (2012-13) with 80 catches for 1,235 yards, and seven touchdowns in 24 games, of which nine were starts.
Dashaun Amos, a 28-year-old from Midlothian, Virginia, made 51 tackles and four interceptions in 17 games for the Argonauts in 2022. This will be his second season in Toronto.
The New York Giants signed Amos as an undrafted free agent in 2017 but was released as part of the final roster cuts. Then, Amos signed with the Calgary Stampeders on October 3rd, 2018. He played three seasons in Calgary (2018-19, 2021) with 85 tackles, five interceptions, and one touchdown in 32 games. He was named a CFL West All-Star in 2019.
Collegiately, Amos played four seasons at East Carolina (2013-16) with 116 tackles, two sacks, one interception, one touchdown, 11 pass breakups, and two fumble recoveries in 49 games for the Pirates.
