The Winnipeg Blue Bombers re-signed defensive back Alden Darby Jr. to a one-year contract extension through the 2023 season and re-signed wide receiver Nic Demski to a three-year contract extension through the 2025 season on Sunday.

Alden Darby Jr., a 30-year-old from Long Beach, California, started the 2022 season with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats with 23 tackles, three tackles on special teams, one sack, and one interception in ten games. After the Blue Bombers acquired Darby from the Ticats for Cedric Wilcots. Darby made six tackles in two games for the Blue Bombers in 2022.

In 2021, Darby played for Winnipeg with 34 tackles in 11 games, helping the Blue Bombers win its second Grey Cup championship. He was named a CFL West All-Star in 2021. Before Winnipeg, Darby spent three seasons in Toronto with 137 tackles, two tackles on special teams, one sack, eight interceptions, and three touchdowns in 43 games.

Collegiately, Darby played four seasons at Arizona State (2010-13) with 214 tackles, two sacks, ten interceptions, two touchdowns, 26 pass breakups, three forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, and one kick return for 26 yards, in 38 games for the Sun Devils.

Nic Demski, a 29-year-old from Winnipeg, Manitoba, had 64 catches for 772 yards, ten touchdowns, and 20 carries for 151 yards in 13 games for Winnipeg in 2022. This will be Demski’s fifth season in Winnipeg.

In four seasons in Winnipeg, Demski has 215 catches for 2,523 yards, 20 touchdowns, 93 carries for 633 yards, four touchdowns, 15 kick returns for 280 yards, and 13 punt returns for 106 yards in 59 games.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders drafted Demski in the first round (6th pick) in the 2015 CFL Draft. He played three seasons in Saskatchewan with 69 catches for 725 yards, three touchdowns, nine carries for 38 yards, 16 kick returns for 331 yards, 84 punt returns for 729 yards, and one touchdown in 40 games.

Collegiately, Demski played four seasons at the University of Manitoba (2011-14) with 87 catches for 1,577 yards, 15 touchdowns, 90 carries for 493 yards, and two touchdowns in 29 games for the Bisons. He is a two-time CIS Second-Team All-Canadian (2013-14), and a CIS First-Team All-Canadian as a returner in 2012.
