The Calgary Stampeders signed former Toronto Argonauts kicker Toshiki Sato and released defensive back Trumaine Washington Monday.
Toshiki Sato, a 29-year-old from Yokohama, Japan, played one game for the Toronto Argonauts in 2019 converting one extra point and nine punts for 311 yards.
The Argonauts drafted him in the second round (16th pick) in the 2021 CFL Global Draft. He also played one preseason game for the Argonauts in 2022.
In 2019, Sato played for the Generals of The Spring League playing two games and making four field goals. His longest field goal went for 54 yards. In 2020, he played for the Aviators of The Spring League.
Sato attended Waseda University. He is a two-time best kicker in Japan making 29 field goals in 18 games. In 2019, he set the X-League record with a 58-yard field goal playing for the IBM Big Blue. In addition, he is a two-time Most Impressive Player (2017-18).
Trumaine Washington, a 27-year-old from Miami, Florida, made 42 tackles, two interceptions, and one touchdown in 12 games for the Stampeders in 2022. In 2021, he played for the Edmonton Elks with 56 tackles, five interceptions, one touchdown, and one forced fumble in 14 games.
In addition, Washington played two seasons for the Toronto Argonauts (2018-19) with 56 tackles, five interceptions, one touchdown, and one forced fumble in 25 games.
Collegiately, Washington played four seasons at Louisville (2014-17) with 143 tackles, ten tackles for loss, seven sacks, ten interceptions with two of them returned for touchdowns, 32 pass breakups, four forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in 46 games with the Cardinals.
