Montreal Alouettes long snapper Pierre-Luc Caron announced his retirement on Friday to pursue a new career as an air traffic controller from NAV Canada. He will be the one contacting the pilots and give them clearance to take off and land. He will make sure all planes can fly safely in the sky.
The 29-year-old from Laval, Quebec, had four tackles on special teams in 18 games during the 2022 season. He played six CFL seasons. The Calgary Stampeders drafted Caron in the fifth round (42nd pick) in the 2016 CFL Draft. He played 71 games for the Stampeders with one tackle, including winning the Grey Cup in 2018.
“This is a job I’ve been aiming for years and I couldn’t miss this opportunity. The decision to leave football was not easy especially since I was playing for the Alouettes, my childhood team,” said Caron. “I will miss my teammates and the organization, and I want to thank the fans who have always supported me on the field.”
Caron played four seasons at the University of Laval (2012-15) with 34 tackles on special teams in 24 games for Laval. In his freshman year, Caron had six tackles, 14 tackles in his sophomore year, 6.5 tackles in his junior season, and 7.5 tackles in his senior year.
