The Ottawa Redblacks released linebacker Avery Williams on Saturday. The 28-year-old from Baltimore, Maryland, had 94 tackles, two sacks, one interception, and two forced fumbles in 18 games for the Redblacks in 2022.
The Redblacks signed Williams as a free agent on January 8th, 2018. He played four seasons in Ottawa with 302 tackles, six sacks, two interceptions, one touchdown, and six forced fumbles in 59 games.
Before joining Ottawa, Williams signed with the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent in 2017 but was released at the end of training camp.
Collegiately, Williams played four seasons at Temple (2013-16) with 154 tackles, three sacks, one interception, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and five kick returns for 80 yards in 46 games for the Owls.
In 2016, he was named All-American Athletic Conference Second Team, ECAC First Team All-Star, and All-American Athletic Conference Third Team (Phil Steele) after making 66 tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in 14 games.
