The Toronto Argonauts and 2022 CFL East All-Star running back A.J. Ouellette agreed to a one-year contract extension through the 2023 season on Saturday.
The 27-year-old from Covington, Ohio, had 98 carries for 516 yards, two touchdowns, 38 catches for 350 yards, and one touchdown in 13 games for Toronto in 2022.
In the 109th Grey Cup, Ouellette had six carries for 24 yards, and two touchdowns to help the Argo’s win the championship over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 24-23. This will be his fourth season in Toronto.
The Argonauts signed Ouellette as a free agent on September 17th, 2019. Ouellette tried out for the New Orleans Saints and Cleveland Browns.
In three seasons for the Argonauts, Ouellette has 144 carries for 773 yards, two touchdowns, 43 catches for 389 yards, two touchdowns, and two kick returns for 15 yards in 22 games.
Collegiately, Ouellette played five seasons at Ohio (2014-18) with 719 carries for 3,833 yards, 32 touchdowns, 64 catches for 516 yards, six touchdowns, and one kick return for 13 yards in 50 games for the Bobcats. He was named Second Team All-MAC Offense in 2017.
In his final season, Ouellette had 213 carries for 1,306 yards, 12 touchdowns, 21 catches for 212 yards, and two touchdowns in 13 games. In the 2018 DXL Frisco Bowl, Ouellette had 29 carries for 164 yards, and two catches for 33 yards as the Bobcats shut out San Diego State 27-0. Ouellette was named the DXL Frisco Bowl MVP.
