Calgary Stampeders signs former Hamilton defensive lineman Julian Howsare

The Calgary Stampeders signed former Hamilton Tiger-Cats defensive lineman Julian Howsare to a one-year contract on Tuesday. The 30-year-old from Altoona, Pennsylvania, had 31 tackles, seven sacks, and two interceptions for the Ticats in 2022. He was named a CFL East All-Star.

The Ticats signed Howsare as a free agent in 2018. He played four seasons in Hamilton with 117 tackles, 21 sacks, two interceptions, and one forced fumble in 62 games. Before coming to the CFL, Howsare spent time with the New York Jets and Seattle Seahawks.

Collegiately, Howsare played four seasons at Clarion University (2011-14) with 256 tackles, 33 sacks, three interceptions, 17 pass breakups, nine forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, ten blocked kicks, four kick returns for 36 yards, four punt returns for 51 yards, and one touchdown in 43 games for the Golden Eagles.

He is a two-time Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-West defensive player of the year, a two-time third-team all-American, and a second-team all-American in 2012.
