Montreal Alouettes re-sign RB Walter Fletcher, adds Greg Ellingson and Jumal Rolle

The Montreal Alouettes and running back Walter agreed to a one-year contract extension on Wednesday. In addition, the Alouettes signed former Winnipeg Blue Bombers wide receiver Greg Ellingson and former Hamilton Tiger-Cats defensive back Jumal Rolle.

Walter Fletcher, a 26-year-old from Columbia, Maryland, had 85 carries for 486 yards, one touchdown, 29 catches for 353 yards, and one touchdown in 14 games for the Alouettes in 2022. The Alouettes acquired him from the Edmonton Elks in 2022. Fletcher played one season with the Elks with 67 carries for 302 yards and 22 catches for 177 yards in 11 games.

The Columbia, Maryland, native played three seasons at Edinboro University (2016-18) in Pennsylvania with 632 carries for 3,913 yards, 41 touchdowns, 93 catches for 692 yards, and six touchdowns in 32 games for the Fighting Scots.

He was a 2016 All-PSAC West Second Team, a two-time (2017, 2018) All-PSAC West First Team, a 2017 AP Division II All-American (Second Team), and a 2018 PSAC Western Division Offensive Athlete of the Year.

After Edinboro, Fletcher transferred to Ball State (2019) with 132 carries for 726 yards, five touchdowns, 26 catches for 306 yards, and two touchdowns in 12 games.

Greg Ellingson, a 34-year-old from Tampa, Florida, had 38 catches for 598 yards, and three touchdowns in eight games for the Blue Bombers in 2022. This will be Ellingson’s tenth season in the CFL.

Before coming to the CFL, Ellingson spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars, New Orleans Voodoo (AFL), Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Tampa Bay Storm (AFL). He signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2013. He played two seasons in Hamilton with 84 catches for 1,229 yards, and six touchdowns in 21 games

Then, Ellingson signed with the Ottawa Redblacks in 2015. He played four seasons in Ottawa with 332 catches for 4,866 yards, and 30 touchdowns in 70 games. During his time in Ottawa, he won the Grey Cup title in 2016, was named a three-time CFL East All-Star (2016-18) and was named a CFL All-Star in 2017.

After Ottawa, Ellington signed with the Edmonton Elks in 2018. He played two seasons in Edmonton with 133 catches for 1,857 yards, and ten touchdowns in 33 games. He was named a CFL West All-Star in 2019. Afterward, he signed with Winnipeg in 2022.

Collegiately, Ellingson played four seasons at Florida International (2007-10) 131 catches for 2,018 yards, 14 touchdowns, and one kick return for 27 yards in 48 games for the Panthers.

Jumal Rolle, a 32-year-old from Wilson, North Carolina, made 35 tackles, two interceptions, and one touchdown in 16 games. This will be Rolle’s fifth season in the CFL. Rolle played four seasons in Hamilton with 158 tackles, 11 interceptions, and two touchdowns in 65 games.

Before coming to the CFL, Rolle played 19 games for the Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens with 22 tackles, three interceptions, and four pass breakups in 19 games. In addition, he spent time with the Buffalo Bills, New Orleans Saints, Green Bay Packers, and Arizona Cardinals.

Collegiately, Rolle played four seasons at Catawba College (2009-12). In his final year, Rolle had 56 tackles, six interceptions, ten pass breakups, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, and four blocked kicks in 11 games for the Indians. In his junior season, Rolle had 30 tackles, two interceptions, 14 pass breakups, and one fumble recovery in 11 games.
