The Saskatchewan Roughriders and linebacker Justin Herdman-Reed agreed to a one-year contract extension through the 2023 season. The 28-year-old from Winnipeg, Manitoba, made 12 tackles in 14 games for the Roughriders in 2022.
This will be Herdman-Reed’s third season in Saskatchewan. The Toronto Argonauts drafted Herdman-Reed in the seventh round (54th pick) in the 2017 CFL Draft. He played three seasons for the Argonauts with 69 tackles, two sacks, and two forced fumbles in 40 games. He is a member of the Toronto Argonauts 2017 Grey Cup championship team.
In 2020, Herdman-Reed signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats but the season was canceled. A year later, he signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. In two seasons, Herdman-Reed has 22 tackles in 27 games for the Roughriders.
Collegiately, Herdman-Reed played four seasons at Simon Fraser (2013-16) with 82 tackles, half a sack, three pass breakups, three forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries in 23 games for the Red Leafs.
