Edmonton Elks signs former B.C. Lions defensive back Hakeem Johnson

The Edmonton Elks signed former B.C. Lions defensive back Hakeem Johnson to a one-year contract through the 2023 season on Friday. The 28-year-old from Brampton, Ontario, made seven tackles in 16 games for the Lions in 2022.

The B.C. Lions drafted Johnson in the fourth round (33rd pick) in the 2019 CFL Draft. He played three seasons in British Columbia with 27 tackles and one interception in 38 games.

Collegiately, Johnson played three seasons at Western Ontario (2016-18) with 28 tackles, three interceptions, and 11 pass breakups in 20 games for the Mustangs. He is a member of the 2017 Vanier Cup championship team and was named OUA second-team all-star in 2017.
