Reading ends three-game losing streak to Newfoundland on Saturday

The Reading Royals (28-16-3) returned to the Santander Arena on Saturday afternoon. They took on the first-place Newfoundland Growlers (34-13-1).

This was the fourth meeting of the season between these two teams. Newfoundland swept Reading in the first three games of the regular season.

Eight minutes and fifty-seven seconds into the third period. Brendan Hoffmann (8) put the Royals up 1-0 with a shorthanded goal. Max Newton and Mason Millman assisted with his goal. The Royals led 1-0 after one period. The Royals had 11 shots on goal in the first period.

Thirteen minutes and forty-four seconds into the second period. Brendan Hoffmann (9) scored his second goal of the game on the power play. It was 2-0 Royals. Devon Paliani and Max Newton assisted with his goal. It was Newton’s second assist of the afternoon.

Four minutes and twenty-eight seconds later. Isaac Johnson (13) scored a power play goal for the Growlers. It was 2-1. Michael Joyaux and Nolan Walker assisted with his goal. The Royals led 2-1 after two periods and had 12 shots on goal.

Fifty-eight seconds into the third period. Max Newton (23) scored for Reading. It was now 3-1. Colin Felix and Brett Boeing assisted with his goal. Five minutes and fifty-three seconds later. Devon Paliani (9) added another goal for Reading. It was now 4-1 and Mason Millman assisted with his goal.

Three minutes and eight seconds later. Devon Paliani (10) made it 5-1 Royals. Brendan Hoffmann and Sam Hu assisted with his goal. With under five minutes left Brennan Kapcheck (3) scored a power play goal for Newfoundland. It was now 5-2 Royals. Brandon Kruse and Keenan Suthers assisted with his goal. The Royals defeated the Growlers by the final score of 5-2. The Royals snapped a three-game losing streak to Newfoundland.

The Royals finished the afternoon with 30 shots, 1/6 on the power play, and Nolan Maier made 26 saves. On the other side, the Growlers had 28 shots, 2/4 on the power play, and Dryden McKay made 25 saves.
