The Montreal Alouettes and defensive back Kerfalla Exumé agreed to a one-year contract extension through the 2023 season on Monday. The 28-year-old from Montreal, Quebec, made six tackles in 18 games for the Alouettes in 2022.
This will be Exumé’s third season in Montreal. In two seasons, Exumé has 24 tackles in 32 games. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers drafted Exumé in the eighth round (70th pick) in the 2019 CFL Draft. In his rookie season, Exumé had 25 tackles in 18 games for the Blue Bombers when they won the 2019 Grey Cup. In 2021, Exumé signed with the Alouettes as a free agent.
Collegiately, Exumé played four seasons at the University of Montreal (2015-18) with 26 tackles, two interceptions, four pass breakups, and one forced fumble in 22 games for the Carabins.
In addition, the Alouettes re-signed former Towson running back Jerry Howard Jr. The 23-year-old from Rock Hill, South Carolina, was on the Alouettes practice squad in 2022. Before joining Montreal, Howard Jr. had a brief stint with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent.
Collegiately, Howard Jr. played four seasons at Georgia Tech (2017-20) with 154 carries for 850 yards, seven touchdowns, 11 catches for 157 yards, and one touchdown in 40 games for the Yellow Jackets.
In 2021, he went to Towson as a graduate transfer with 191 carries for 932 yards, three touchdowns, 15 catches for 134 yards, and one touchdown in 11 games for the Tigers. He was named to the All-CAA Third Team.
