On Tuesday, the United States Football League held the 2023 USFL Draft. Unlike last year, this was an all-college draft. The Philadelphia Stars, along with seven other USFL teams drafted ten players except for the New Jersey Generals, who had their first round pick taken away due to a roster violation. Among the Stars’ draft picks, five of them were offensive linemen.
First Round (6th pick): Alfred Edwards-Utah State
Alfred Edwards, a 24-year-old from Redlands, California, started 11 of 12 games at left tackle and allowed one sack for Utah State in 2022. He was named first-team all-Mountain West honors in 2022. The Aggies’ offense scored 22.23 points per game for a total of 289 points. Utah State had 4,608 total yards, 2,346 yards in rushing, 14 touchdowns, 2,537 passing yards, and 18 touchdowns. Edwards played five seasons at Utah State (2018-22).
Alfred Edwards set the Aggies record with 53 career starts and ranks second all-time in 56 career games played. In addition, Edwards is a four-time Academic All-Mountain West (2019-22).
Second Round (13th pick) Anderson Hardy-Appalachian State
Anderson Hardy, a 23-year-old from Raleigh, North Carolina, played 12 games at left tackle. The Mountaineers’ offense scored 34.92 points per game for a total of 419 points. In addition, they had 5,464 yards on offense, 2,630 yards in rushing, 27 touchdowns, 3,011 yards in passing, and 28 touchdowns. He was named All-Sun Belt first team.
Hardy played 44 games in four seasons at Appalachian State (2019-22), of which 29 were starts, including 28 in a row to end his career. He was invited to the Hula Bowl. In addition, he was named All-Sun Belt second team in 2021.
Third Round (21st pick): Isaac Moore-Temple
Isaac Moore, a 23-year-old from Orebro, Sweden, played 57 games in five seasons at Temple (2018-22) at left tackle. He played 12 games in 2022 and broke Delvon Randall’s school record for most consecutive games played with 55. Temple’s offense scored 21.92 points per game for a total of 263 points.
The Owls had 1,229 yards, 11 touchdowns in rushing, and 3,217 yards and 18 touchdowns in passing for a total of 4,206 yards. Moore earned postseason fourth-team All-AAC in 2022.
Fourth round (29th pick) Truman Jones-Harvard
Truman Jones, a 23-year-old from Atlanta, Georgia, served as the 148th captain in Harvard football history. He made 40 tackles, six sacks, one pass breakup, one forced fumble, and three blocked kicks in ten games for the Crimson. He was named First Team All-Ivy, a William V. Campbell Trophy Semifinalist, and Bulger Lowe Award (Top Defensive Player in New England).
Jones played four seasons in Harvard (2018-19, 2021-22) with 88 tackles, 14.5 sacks, four pass breakups, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and four blocked kicks in 30 games.
Fifth Round (37th pick): Earl Bostick Jr.-Kansas
Earl Bostick Jr., a 24-year-old from Barnwell, South Carolina, did not allow a sack in 13 games at left tackle for Kansas. He played 59 games in six seasons at Kanas (2017-22) playing left tackle.
Kansas’s offense scored 35.62 points per game for a total of 463 points, 2,395 yards, 29 touchdowns in rushing, and 3,307 yards, 32 games passing for a total of 5,702 yards. He was named Academic All-America Second Team in 2022.
Sixth Round (46th pick): Jose Ramirez-Eastern Michigan
Jose Ramirez, a 22-year-old from Lake Alfred, Florida, made 66 tackles, 12 sacks, two pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 13 games for the Eagles. Ramirez played four seasons at Eastern Michigan (2019-22) with 156 tackles, 20.5 sacks, seven pass breakups, six forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 36 games.
He was named Third Team All-MAC selection in 2021 after making 63 tackles, 6.5 sacks, four pass breakups, and three forced fumbles in 13 games. In addition, Ramirez played one season at Riverside Community College in 2018 with 44 tackles, eight sacks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 12 games for the Tigers.
Seventh Round (54th pick): Demontrey Jacobs-USF
Demontrey Jacobs, a 23-year-old from Gonzales, Louisiana, played 12 games at right tackle for USF in 2022. He played 24 games in two seasons at USF (2020-21) playing right tackle for the Bulls. USF scored 28 points per game for a total of 336 points.
In addition, the Bulls’ offense had 2,618 yards, 25 touchdowns in rushing, 2,315 yards, and 18 touchdowns in passing for a total of 4,690 yards. Jacobs began his collegiate career at Grambling State (2018-19) playing 22 games as a defensive lineman before switching to offense.
Eighth Round (62nd pick): Trey Botts-Colorado State-Pueblo
Trey Botts, a 24-year-old from Aurora, Colorado, made 66 tackles and 5.5 sacks in 12 games for the Thunderwolves in 2022. Botts played four seasons at Colorado State-Pueblo (2018-19, 2021-22) with 153 tackles, 8.5 sacks, and one fumble recovery in 43 games.
He is a two-time All-RMAC Honorable Mention team. In 2021, Botts led the Thunderwolves’ defense with 55 tackles, two sacks, and one fumble recovery in 11 games.
Ninth Round (70th pick): Destin Mack-Citadel
Destin Mack, a 23-year-old from Macon, Georgia, made 50 tackles, two interceptions, three pass breakups, and one fumble recovery in ten games for the Bulldogs. He was named Preseason First-Team All-Southern Conference in 2022.
Mack played five seasons at Citadel (2018-22) with 182 tackles, two sacks, nine interceptions, 20 pass breakups, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, and two blocked kicks in 53 games.
In 2021, Mack was named Second-Team All-Southern Conference after making 44 tackles, five interceptions, seven pass breakups, one fumble recovery, and two blocked kicks in 11 games.
Tenth Round (78th pick): Dre Terry-Alabama A&M
Dre Terry, a 22-year-old from Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, had 80 tackles, half a sack, one interception, three pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in ten games for the Alabama A&M Bulldogs in 2022.
Terry started his collegiate career at Chowan University (2017-18) with 95 tackles, 2.5 sacks, four pass breakups, and one fumble recovery in 18 games for the Hawks.
Then, he transferred to East Carolina (2020-21) with three tackles in 15 games for the Pirates. After East Carolina, he transferred to Alabama A&M.
