The B.C. Lions acquired quarterback Dane Evans from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Thursday for a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2024 CFL Draft. The 29-year-old from Chickasha, Oklahoma, completed 305 of 457 passes (66.7%) for 3,883 yards, 16 touchdowns, 16 interceptions, 59 carries for 202 yards, and four touchdowns in 17 games for the Ticats in 2022.
“We are thrilled to add someone of Dane’s caliber to our quarterback room. You can never have enough proven veterans at QB,” said co-GM/head coach Rick Campbell. “Vernon Adams Jr. is our guy and our starter. Led by VA, the QB room will be a major key to our success.”
Evans signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2017 but was released at the end of training camp. Then, Evans signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats a month later.
Evans spent four seasons in Hamilton completing 698 of 1,019 passes (68.5%) for 8,807 yards, 45 touchdowns, 34 interceptions, 125 carries for 511 yards, and ten touchdowns in 63 games. He led the Ticats to two Grey Cup appearances in 2019 and 2021.
Collegiately, Evans played four seasons at Tulsa (2013-16) completing 904 of 1,577 passes (57.3%) for 11,680 yards, 84 touchdowns, 47 interceptions, 244 carries for 72 yards, and ten touchdowns in 46 games for the Golden Hurricanes, of which 43 were starts.
