This weekend, the 2023 NTT IndyCar Series season kicks off with the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Peterburg on the streets of St. Peterburg, Florida. In addition, the Indy NXT (formally Indy Lights) will also kick off its 2023 season on Sunday.
Scott McLaughlin is the defending winner of this race and will look to make it two in a row on Sunday. If he pulls it off, McLaughlin will join Juan Pablo Montoya, Sebastien Bourdais, and Josef Newgarden in winning the event twice. Helio Castroneves has the most wins in St. Peterburg (3).
Since the race’s inception dating back to CART in 2003, five of the 19 drivers who have won this event went on to win the IndyCar/CART championship. They are Paul Tracy (03), Dan Wheldon (05), Dario Franchitti (11), Will Power (14), and Josef Newgarden (19).
NTT IndyCar Series Practice, Qualifying, as well as the Indy NXT Series, will all air on Peacock. The race gets underway on Sunday at 12 pm on NBC and Peacock.
