The Reading Royals released defenseman Zach Shankar from his Amateur Tryout Contract (ATO) on Thursday. The 26-year-old from Prescott, Ontario, has one assist in four games for the Royals. He assisted Charlie Gerard’s goal last Saturday against the Trois-Rivieres Lions.

Shankar wrapped up his collegiate career at Toronto Metro University in 2022 with four goals and 11 assists (15 points) in 24 goals for the Bold. In addition, Shankar played three playoff games for the Bold with no stats.

Shankar played four seasons in the OHL for the North Bay Battalion, Niagara IceDogs, and Windsor Spitfires with nine goals and 54 assists (63 points) in 218 games. In addition, Shankar had two goals and two assists (4 points) in 17 playoff games for North Bay and Windsor.

Then, Shankar played four seasons at Ryerson University (2018-21) with six goals and 22 assists (28 points) in 60 games for the Rams.
