The Philadelphia Eagles signed former Seattle Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny to a one-year contract for $2.1 million.
Rashaad Penny, a 27-year-old from Norwalk, California, had 57 carries for 346 yards, two touchdowns, and four catches for 16 yards in five games for Seattle before suffering a season-ending broken fibula.
The Seahawks drafted Penny in the first round (27th pick) in the 2018 NFL Draft. He played five seasons in Seattle with 337 carries for 1,918 yards, 13 touchdowns, 27 catches for 222 yards, and one touchdown in 42 games, of which 11 were starts.
Collegiately, Penny played four seasons at San Diego State (2014-17) with 478 carries for 3,633 yards, 38 touchdowns, 41 catches for 475 yards, six touchdowns, 79 kick returns for 2,400 yards, seven touchdowns, and two punt returns for 70 yards, and one touchdown in 53 games for the Aztecs. Penny is a three-time First Team All-MWC, three-time MWC Special Teams Player of the Year, MWC Offensive Player of the Year in 2017, and an All-American in 2017.
In addition, the Eagles re-signed running back Boston Scott to a one-year contract worth $2 million, and defensive back James Bradberry to a three-year contract for $38 million.
Boston Scott, a 27-year-old from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, had 54 carries for 217 yards, three touchdowns, and five catches for 15 yards in 15 games, of which two were starts.
This will be Scott’s sixth season in Philadelphia. Scott has 282 carries for 1,209 yards, 16 touchdowns, 67 catches for 514 yards, and one touchdown in 60 games, of which 12 were starts.
Collegiately, Scott played four seasons at Louisiana Tech (2014-17) with 288 carries for 1,840 yards, 14 touchdowns, 32 catches for 307 yards, one touchdown, and 29 kick returns for 633 yards in 39 games for the Bulldogs. Scott was named Third Team All-Conference USA in 2017.
James Bradberry, a 29-year-old from Pleasant Grove, Alabama, made 44 tackles, three interceptions for 54 yards, one touchdown, and 17 pass breakups in 17 games for the Eagles in 2022. This will be Bradberry’s second season in Philadelphia.
The Carolina Panthers drafted Bradberry in the second round (62nd pick) in the 2016 NFL Draft. He played four seasons in Carolina with 279 tackles, eight interceptions for 53 yards, 47 pass breakups, and two forced fumbles in 60 games.
Then, Bradberry signed with the New York Giants in 2020. He played two seasons with 101 tackles, seven interceptions for 38 yards, 35 pass breakups, and two forced fumbles in 32 games, of which 31 were starts.
Collegiately, Bradberry played four seasons at Samford University (2012-15) with 128 tackles, eight interceptions for 92 yards, and 35 pass breakups in 46 games for the Bulldogs. He was named Second Team All-SoCon in 2014.
The Eagles lost another key player on defense as linebacker Kyzir White is signing a two-year contract for $11 million with the Arizona Cardinals. White played one season for the Eagles with 110 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and seven pass breakups in 17 games, of which eight were starts.
The Los Angeles Chargers drafted White in the fourth round (119th pick) in the 2018 NFL Draft. White played four seasons in Los Angeles with 278 tackles, 1.5 sacks, four interceptions for 31 yards, ten pass breakups, and two forced fumbles in 47 games, of which 37 were starts.
Collegiately, White played two seasons at Lackawanna College (2014-15) with 71 tackles, four interceptions for 48 yards, six pass breakups, two fumble recoveries, and one blocked kick in 18 games for the Falcons. He was named to the 2015 All-Northeast Football Conference First Team.
Then, he transferred to West Virginia (2016-17) with 152 tackles, four sacks, three interceptions for two yards, 12 pass breakups, four forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in 25 games for the Mountaineers.
