The Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed former Virginia Tech wide receiver Tre Turner and former Memphis defensive lineman O’Bryan Goodson on Tuesday.
Tre Turner, a 22-year-old from Greensboro, North Carolina, had a brief stint with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022. Turner was initially expected to sign with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent but chose to sign with the Raiders.
Collegiately, Turner played four seasons at Virginia Tech (2018-2021) with 134 catches for 2,292 yards, 14 touchdowns, 53 carries for 456 yards, four touchdowns, and one punt return for 23 yards in 44 games, of which 36 were starts. Turner was named the PFF College All-ACC Second Team in 2020 and was invited to the 2022 Reese’s Senior Bowl.
In his final season, Turner had 40 catches for 675 yards, three touchdowns, and 12 carries for 64 yards in 11 games, of which ten were starts.
Turner was named ACC Wide Receiver of the Week (11/1/21) and Reese’s Senior Bowl Offensive Player of the Week (11/1/21) after making seven catches for 187 yards, including a career-high 69-yard touchdown against Georgia Tech. His 187 reception yards were the fifth most by a Tech player since at least 1987 and second most by an ACC player this season.
O’Bryan Goodson, a 24-year-old from Batesville, Mississippi, was drafted by the Seattle Sea Dragons (XFL) in the eighth round (63rd pick) of the 2020 XFL Draft but was released at the end of training camp.
Collegiately, Goodson played four seasons at Memphis (2017-20) with 80 tackles, five sacks, one pass breakup, four forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 35 games for the Tigers.
In his final season, Goodson made 28 tackles, four sacks, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in eight games. He was named First-Team All-American Athletic Conference in 2020. In addition, Goodson helped the Tigers win the 2020 Montgomery Bowl.
In 2019, Goodson was an Honorable Mention All-AAC after making 21 tackles and one forced fumble in 13 games. The Tigers finished the season 12-2, winning the AAC Championship and appearing in the 84th Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic.
