For the first time since 2015, the city of Winnipeg, Manitoba, will host the 112th Grey Cup championship game in 2025. The CFL officially announced it on Tuesday.

“As a proud Winnipegger, I’m absolutely elated to announce the return of the Grey Cup to my hometown,” said Commissioner Randy Ambrosie.

“I’m thrilled for the city, the entire province of Manitoba, and of course, for all of our incredible fans across the country. Hosting the Grey Cup is a tremendous honor, and I was blown away by the Blue Bombers’ plans to engage the community and put on an unforgettable celebration of our great game. I can’t wait to see it all unfold.”

Winnipeg first hosted the Grey Cup in 1991 at the old Winnipeg Stadium when the Toronto Argonauts beat the Calgary Stampeders 36-21 in the 79th Grey Cup. Toronto wide receiver Raghib Ismail was named MVP.

Winnipeg Stadium would host its second Grey Cup title game in 1998 as the Calgary Stampeders narrowly beat the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 26-24 in the 86th Grey Cup. Calgary quarterback Jeff Garcia was named MVP.

Winnipeg Stadium’s final Grey Cup title game (rebranded as Canad Inns Stadium) happened in 2006 when the B.C. Lions defeated the Montreal Alouettes 25-14. Current Calgary head coach Dave Dickenson was named MVP.

Winnipeg’s IG Field hosted the 103rd Grey Cup championship game in 2015 when the Edmonton Eskimos defeated the Ottawa Redblacks 26-20. Edmonton quarterback Mike Reilly was named MVP.

“The CFL’s loudest and most passionate fans will be ready to showcase our Province and City to the great fans visiting from coast to coast when we host the 112th Grey Cup in our very own stadium,” said Wade Miller, President and CEO, Winnipeg Football Club.

“We’re ready to once again show the country that Manitoba knows how to throw a party and welcome CFL fans. We are grateful for the incredible support from the Province of Manitoba, the City of Winnipeg, and our corporate partners in helping us win the bid.”

Tim Horton’s Field will host the 110th Grey Cup championship game this year and BC Place will host the 111th Grey Cup in 2024.
