The Reading Royals signed goalie Bailey Brkin to a Standard Player Contract (SPO) on Wednesday. The 23-year-old from Sherwood Park, Alberta, played 12 games for the Quad City Storm (SPHL) with a 5-6-1 record, a 3.26 GAA, and a .910 SV% in the 2022-23 season.
In addition to Quad City, Brkin played for the Iowa Heartlanders (ECHL) with a 0-2 record, a 3.54 GAA, and a .907 SV% in two games, and the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL) with a 5-5-2 record, a 3.00 GAA, and a .902 SV% in 12 games.
Brkin has played two seasons in the ECHL with the Iowa Heartlanders, Wheeling Nailers, Fort Wayne Comets, Rapid City Rush, and Orlando Solar Bears. He is 9-13-2, with a 3.33 GAA, and a .890 SV% in 25 games. Brkin also had a stint in the AHL with the Utica Comets in the 2021-22 season but never played a game.
He has also played two seasons in the SPHL for the Quad City Storm with a 16-10-3 record, 2.58 GAA, and a .916 SV% in 29 games. In addition, he is 3-3, with a 2.35 GAA, and a .919 SV% in the SPHL playoffs.
Before playing in the SPHL and ECHL, Brkin played two seasons in the AJHL with the Calgary Mustangs (5-30-1, 5.19 GAA, .890 SV%, 42 games) and Lloydminster Bobcats (5-4-1, 2.67 GAA, .929 SV%, 11 games).
He also played four seasons in the WHL for the Swift Current Broncos, Kootenay Ice, Spokane Chiefs, and Moose Jaw Warriors with an overall record of 44-32-6, 3.40 GAA, .898 SV%, and five shutouts in 89 games. In addition, he is 10-6-1, 2.73 GAA, and .917 SV% in the WHL playoffs.
