The Lehigh Valley Phantoms signed defenseman Emil Andrae to a player tryout contract (PTO) on Thursday. The 21-year-old from Västervik, Sweden, scored six goals and 20 assists (26 points) in 51 games for HV71 (SHL) in the 2022-23 season.
Andrae played four seasons for HV71 with six goals and 27 assists (33 points) in 92 games. In addition, he played two SHL playoff games. The Flyers drafted Andrae in the second round (54th pick) in the 2020 NHL Draft.
Before the SHL, Andrae played three seasons in the HockeyAllsvenskan for IK Oskarshamn, Västerviks IK, and HV71 with 12 goals and 27 assists (39 points) in 60 games. Furthermore, he scored three goals and eight assists (11 points).
In the 2021-22 season, Andrae scored nine goals and 24 assists (33 points) in 41 games. In addition, he scored three goals and eight assists (11 points) in ten playoff games helping HV71 win the HockeyAllsvenskan Championship.
Internationally, Andrae played for Sweden in the U16, U17, U18, and U20 World Junior teams. In 2022, Andrae helped the Sweden U20 team win the Bronze Medal in the World Juniors scoring four goals and four assists (8 points). Sweden beat Czechia 3-1.
During the U20 World Juniors, Andrae was named to the U20 WJC All-Star Team. He scored the most goals by a defenseman (4) in the U20 WJC. In the WHC-17, Andrae had three assists in six helping as Sweden won the WHC Bronze Medal.
