Highlights: 2023 IMSA Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring

A major crash involving the top-three GTP cars in Sebring

The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship visited Sebring International Raceway on Saturday for the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.

Whelen Engineering Racing Cadillac (Pipo Derani, Alexander Sims, and Jack Aitken) started on the pole in the GTP class, while PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports (Ben Keating, Paul-Loup Chatin, and Alex Quinn) won the pole in LMP2, and Andretti Autosport (Glenn Van Berlo, Jarett Andretti, and Gabby Chaves) started on the pole in LMP3.

Corvette Racing (Antonio Garcia, Jordan Taylor, and Tommy Milner) won the pole in GTD Pro, and Racers Edge Motorsports (Kyle Marcelli, Ashton Harrison, Danny Formal) won the pole in GTD.

With under 20 minutes left in the race, a dramatic three-car accident eliminated the top-three running cars in GTP between two Porsche Penske Motorsports and Wayne Taylor Racing propelled the No. 31 Whelen Engineering Racing Cadillac to victory by 2.940 seconds over the No. 25 BMW Team RLL (Connor De Phillippi, Nick Yelloly, and Sheldon Vander Linde).

Tower Motorsports (John Farano, Scott McLaughlin, and Kyffin Simpson) took home the win in LMP2, and Riley Motorsports (Gar Robinson, Felipe Fraga, and Josh Burdon) won in LMP3.

Furthermore, Pfaff Motorsports (Klaus Bachler, Patrick Pilet, and Laurens Vanthoor) won in GTP Pro, and Paul Miller Racing BMW (Madison Snow, Corey Lewis, and Bryan Sellers) won in GTD.

The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship returns on Saturday, April 15th, for the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach in Long Beach, California, at 5 pm on USA Network and Peacock.
