The Toronto Argonauts signed former Castleton defensive lineman Chris Rice on Monday. The 23-year-old from Bethel, Connecticut, attended the Tennessee Titans rookie minicamp in 2022.
Collegiately, Rice played four seasons at Castleton University (2017-2021) with 228 tackles, 69 tackles of loss, 26.5 sacks, two interceptions for 108 yards, one touchdown, seven pass breakups, eight forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, four blocked kicks, and one catch for 15 yards in 39 games for the Spartans.
In his final season, Rice had 65 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and one blocked kick in ten games.
He holds the Castleton record for sacks in a single game (3), season sacks (11.5), career sacks, (26.5), season tackles for loss (23), and career tackles for loss (69). He finished second in the nation in tackles for a loss in 2021.
He was named to the D-3.com All-Region Team in 2021 and a two-time Eastern Collegiate Football Conference’s Defensive Player of the Year (2019, 2021).
