Edmonton sign QB Khalil Tate, LB Javahn Fergurson, and OL Peter Kozushka

The Edmonton Elks signed former Arizona quarterback Khalil Tate, former New Mexico State linebacker Javahn Fergurson, and former University of Alberta offensive lineman Peter Kozushka on Tuesday.

Khalil Tate, a 24-year-old from Inglewood, California, signed with the Elks in January of 2022 before being released and later signed with the Toronto Argonauts. In addition, Tate signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2020.

Collegiately, Tate played four seasons at the University of Arizona (2016-19) completing 459 of 772 (59.5%) passes for 6,318 yards, 57 touchdowns, 31 interceptions, 366 carries for 2,285 yards, and 18 touchdowns in 40 games for the Wildcats.

Khalil Tate became the first player in PAC-12 history to win the Offensive Player of the Week four times. In addition, Tate was a 2017 Maxwell Award Finalist, 2017 Manning Award Finalist, and 2017 Davey O’Brien Award Semifinalist.

Javahn Fergurson, a 25-year-old from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, played for the Vegas Knight Hawks (IFL) in 2022 with 64 tackles, one sack, one interception, and two pass breakups in 11 games.

Collegiately, Fergurson played five seasons at New Mexico State (2015-19) with 346 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, nine sacks, one interception, one touchdown, nine pass breakups, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries in 39 games for the Aggies. He was named Phil Steele All-Independent First Team in 2019 and finished his career ranked tenth on the Aggies’ all-time tackles list (346).

Peter Kozushka, a 25-year-old from Yorkton, Saskatchewan, was drafted by the Montreal Alouettes in the sixth round (51st pick) in the 2022 CFL Draft but was released before the start of the 2022 season. Collegiately, Kozushka played four seasons at the University of Alberta (2018-22) playing 29 games, of which five were starts at left tackle and two at guard.
