Former Breakers quarterback Kyle Sloter released by Arlington Renegades

The Arlington Renegades (XFL) released quarterback Kyle Sloter on Monday. The 29-year-old from Atlanta, Georgia, completed 61 of 101 (60.4%) passes for 499 yards, one touchdown, four interceptions, and eight carries for 27 yards in four games for the Renegades in 2023.

This release comes after Sloter was benched in the fourth quarter in a Renegades 15-9 loss to the San Antonio Brahmas on Sunday. Sloter completed 6 of 13 (46.2%) passes for 22 yards.

In 2022, the New Orleans Breakers drafted Sloter in the first round (8th pick) in the USFL Draft. Sloter completed 168 of 291 (57.7%) passes for 1,798 yards, 9 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, 19 carries for 54 yards, and one touchdown in nine games for the Breakers.

He led the Breakers to the Southern Division Final against the eventual champion Birmingham Stallions. Sloter was named to the All-USFL team after the season.

Before the USFL, Sloter signed with the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent. He completed 31 of 43 (72.1%) passes for 413 yards, and three touchdowns in four preseason games. After Denver, he had stints with the Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals, Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears, and Las Vegas Raiders.

After the Breakers season ended, Sloter signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He completed 13 of 25 (52%) passes for 127 yards, one touchdown, and two carries for four yards against the Las Vegas Raiders in the 2022 Hall of Fame Game. He was released four days later.

Collegiately, Sloter played two seasons at Southern Mississippi (2013-14) as a wide receiver making eight catches for 51 yards, and five touchdowns in 13 games, of which two were starts for the Golden Eagles. He is a two-time Conference USA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll.

Then, he transferred to Northern Colorado (2015-16) completing 197 of 319 (61.8%) for 2,665 yards, 29 touchdowns, 10 interceptions, 73 carries for 28 yards, three touchdowns, and six catches for 65 yards in 22 games for the Bears.
