The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed veteran defensive back Rashard Robinson on Friday. The 27-year-old from Pompano Beach, Florida, played with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021 making four tackles in seven games before reverting to the practice squad.

The San Francisco 49ers drafted Robinson in the fourth round (133rd pick) in the 2016 NFL Draft. He played a season and a half for the 49ers with 55 tackles, 15 pass breakups, two interceptions, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 22 games, of which 13 were starts.

Then, the 49ers traded Robinson to the New York Jets on October 31st, 2017. He played a season and a half in New York with ten tackles and one fumble recovery in 16 games, of which two were starts.

Afterward, Richardson signed with the Dallas Cowboys in 2020 and was placed on the practice squad. He was later moved up to the active roster and made 20 tackles in four games, of which three were starts. Then, he signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021. Unfortunately, he struggled to stay healthy and had several suspensions throughout his seven-year career.

Collegiately, Richardson played two seasons at LSU (2013-14) with 33 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, five pass breakups, and one interception in 20 games, of which eight were starts for the Tigers.

Midway through the 2014 season, Richardson was suspended for a failed drug test and substandard academics. Furthermore, he was arrested in June 2015 for unauthorized entry into a teammate’s apartment and was not allowed to re-enroll. He later transferred to Broward College and trained for the NFL Draft.
