The Reading Royals (38-23-5) continued their four-game homestand at the Santander Arena on Saturday evening against the Trios-Rivieres Lions (26-37-3) for the ninth time this year. Coming into this game, the Royals were 6-2 against the Lions this year.
Six minutes and fifty-six seconds into the first period, Cole Gallant (1) scored a power play goal to put the Lions up 1-0. Brett Stapley and Anthony Beauregard assisted with his goal. Five minutes and twenty-four seconds later, Shane Sellar (17) scored a power play goal for the Royals, tying the game 1-1. Alec Butcher and Tyler Heidt assisted with his goal.
Five minutes and fifty-six seconds later, Matthew Barron (8) scored to put the Lions back up 2-1. William Lemay and James Phelan assisted with his goal. The Royals had 12 shots on goal and trailed the Lions 2-1 after one period.
Eight minutes and forty-six seconds into the second period, Cedric Montminy (19) scored a goal that extended the Lions’ lead to 3-1 assisted by Anthony Beauregard. The Royals had ten shots and trailed the Lions 3-1 after two periods.
The Royals had six shots in the third period and lost to the Lions by the final score of 3-1. They are now 5-3-2 in their last ten games.
Reading finished the evening with 28 shots, 1-4 on the power play, and Matt Vernon made 23 saves. On the other side, the Lions had 26 shots, 1-5 on the power play, and William Lavalliere made 27 saves.
