The Philadelphia Stars released offensive lineman Dare Rosenthal, wide receiver Kelvin Harmon, and defensive tackle Antwan Owens on Saturday as training camp concluded at Eastern Michigan University. In addition, the Stars placed running back Darnell Holland on injured reserve.
Dare Rosenthal is six foot seven and weighs 327 pounds. The 23-year-old from Ferriday, Louisiana, signed with the Stars a couple of weeks ago. Before Philadelphia, Rosenthal signed with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent in 2022. At the 2022 NFL Combine, Rosenthal was the fastest offensive lineman to run a 40-yard dash in 4.88 seconds.
In high school, Rosenthal was the top-rated defensive tackle prospect in Louisiana. He helped his team to the semifinals of the 2A state playoffs as a senior in 2017. In addition, Rosenthal was the nation’s No. 18 overall defensive tackle and ranked as the seventh-best defensive tackle in the south region, and ranked No. 193 overall by Scout.
In his senior season, Rosenthal made 60 tackles, 30 tackles for loss, six sacks, five quarterback hurries, recovered four fumbles (two for TDs), blocked a field goal, and one interception.
Collegiately, Rosenthal played 13 games in two seasons at LSU (2019-20), of which eight were starts at left guard for the Tigers. In 2019, he played 229 snaps helping the Tigers go undefeated at 15-0 and win the CFP National Championship over Clemson.
In 2021, Rosenthal transferred to Kentucky and started 12 of 13 games for the Wildcats playing left tackle. He missed the Vrbo Citrus Bowl due to a leg injury late in the season and was named All-SEC Third Team (PFF).
Kelvin Harmon is six foot two and weighs 215 pounds. The 25-year-old from Monrovia, Liberia, signed with the Stars three weeks ago. Before Philadelphia, Harmon was drafted by the Washington Redskins in the sixth round (206th pick) in the 2019 NFL Draft.
In his rookie year, Harmon caught 30 passes for 365 yards in 16 games, of which eight were starts for the Redskins. In 2020, Harmon suffered an ACL tear while training for the upcoming season and missed the season.
After being released in 2021, he re-signed with Washington and was placed on the practice squad. Later, he re-signed with Washington again in January 2022 but was released during training camp.
Collegiately, Harmon played three seasons at North Carolina State (2016-18) with 177 catches for 2,665 yards, 16 touchdowns, and two tackles in 38 games for the Wolf Pack.
In addition, Harmon played at Palmyra High School (NJ) with 165 catches for 2,764 yards, and 36 touchdowns in his career. He helped the team to a 10-2 record, reaching the New Jersey Central Group 1 state finals.
Antwan Owens is six foot four and weighs 280 pounds. The 24-year-old from Tallahassee, Florida, made ten tackles and one forced fumble in four games for the Stars in 2022. Before the Stars, Owens spent time with the Detroit Lions.
Collegiately, Owens played four seasons at Georgia Tech (2017-20) with 53 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, one interception, two fumble recoveries, and one blocked kick in 35 games for the Yellow Jackets. Then, he transferred to Jackson State in 2021 with 65 tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, two pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 13 games for the Tigers.
Darnell Holland is five foot ten and weighs 200 pounds. The 26-year-old from Bowdon, Georgia, was drafted by the Stars in the 27th round (210th pick) in the 2022 USFL Draft. Holland played six games, including one start for Philadelphia in 2022 with 27 carries for 142 yards, two touchdowns, eight catches for 26 yards, and five kick returns for 132 yards.
Before the Stars, Holland played for the Generals in 2021. He was named South Division Player of the Week in Week 5 against the Sea Lions after returning two kickoff returns for touchdowns plus a rushing touchdown.
Collegiately, Holland played four seasons (2015-18) at Kennesaw State University with 244 carries for 2,431 yards, 26 touchdowns, 35 catches for 606 yards, three touchdowns, 20 kick returns for 597 yards, and one touchdown in 49 games for the Owls.
