The Reading Royals (40-25-6) continued their three-game homestand at the Santander Arena on Friday night against the Newfoundland Growlers (48-21-2) in their ninth meeting of the season. Coming into this game, the Royals were 3-5 against Newfoundland this year.
Thirteen minutes and sixteen seconds into the first period, Evan Barratt (25) put the Royals up 1-0 with assists from Jacob Gaucher and Will MacKinnon. Five minutes and twenty-seven seconds later, Jacob Gaucher (22) extend the Royals’ lead to 2-0 with an assist from Evan Barratt. The Royals had 14 shots and led 2-0 after one period.
After a scoreless second period in which Reading had 15 shots, Ryan Chyzowski (5) scored for Newfoundland. It was now 2-1 Reading. Zach O’Brien and Orrin Centazzo assisted with Chyzowski’s goal. A minute and thirty-seven seconds later, Max Newton (34) scored for the Royals. It was now 3-1 with assists from Charlie Gerard and Ryan Cook.
The Royals had ten shots and defeated the Growlers by the final score of 3-1. They finished the night with 39 shots, 0-7 on the power play, and Pat Nagle made 18 saves. On the other side, the Growlers had 19 shots, 0-3 on the power play, and Dryden McKay made 36 saves.
